Valentine Be Mine

We made that vow that binds
Us forever. Oh I know forever
Is longer than most vows hold.
Ours is writ in stone. Solid and
Built to last. As long as we both
Shall live. I will love you for the
Eternity if there is an eternity.
If forever is real and there is a
Life that we can live beyond the
Life we live, together here on
Earth, I will treasure you til then.
Dedicated to my Burt

End it

"And by opposing," says the Bard
Of Avon, "end it." The rights of men
Are defended. Women's rights come
Later amended. Do I know or did
I read the Constitution or the Bill
That granted men rights of freedom.
In fairness, the Constitution required
Amending to remind us of our rights
The Bill of Rights was applied to
A class and color of man, property
Owner and to our shame he may
Have owned people as his chattel
Freedom did not guarantee men or
Women to be free or emancipated.
Human rights are not documented
In The Bill of Rights. Our rights are
An afterthought of democracy but
We are hopeful for the progress
That thought represents, even after.
We hope that our Rights move forward.
Like progress, rights can be fragile,
Need our protection. Shepherding the
Gains that civil justice partnered. Maybe
Rights will be rights for every one of us.

Love Song

What I learn when I listen
To you is why my heart is
Full and my heartstrings
Play songs all of their own
Creating. Easy lyrics, hard
Choices, soft sounds, like
Purring, the slow beats of
Love and care. Feeling the
Swelling of joy in my daily
Discovery of you! What I
Learn just listening to you
Is the depth and meaning of
Tender fondness, emotions
Neither carefree or free of
Care. Heartening, heartfelt.
You are why my heart sings.

Like pearls

I string words that I hope
Are as wise and even or as
Uneven as pearls. They can
Shine white and iridescent
Round or fragmented as any
Sentence I have ever written.
Telling my story or sentiment
I hope as well as the perfect
Pearls the Pacific yields or the
Little bitty ones my mother
Once had before she got a
Beautiful blue gray strand.
That was a show off necklace
But me, I so admired those
Ones that looked like hen's
Teeth, laying simply and
Easily against her sweater
