We made that vow that binds
Us forever. Oh I know forever
Is longer than most vows hold.
Ours is writ in stone. Solid and
Built to last. As long as we both
Shall live. I will love you for the
Eternity if there is an eternity.
If forever is real and there is a
Life that we can live beyond the
Life we live, together here on
Earth, I will treasure you til then.

Gnarly
Upon the approach, it looks
Like one is growing out of
The other. A motorcycle in
Swaddling symbiotically
Emerging from a tree with
Curious knobs punctuating
Its trunk. Intertwined and
Intwined, one ends where
The other starts, joined in
Nature, unnaturally begun
As friendship or proximity

Love Song
What I learn when I listen
To you is why my heart is
Full and my heartstrings
Play songs all of their own
Creating. Easy lyrics, hard
Choices, soft sounds, like
Purring, the slow beats of
Love and care. Feeling the
Swelling of joy in my daily
Discovery of you! What I
Learn just listening to you
Is the depth and meaning of
Tender fondness, emotions
Neither carefree or free of
Care. Heartening, heartfelt.
You are why my heart sings.
Repeat, please
Over and again, it's
The repetition, it forms
A rhythm all its own.
Again and again. The
Suspense is waiting
For Phil or Chuck to
Spot their shadows
And seal our fates til
Spring springs the
Tulips from under
The earth, again and
Again, over and over.
Like pearls
I string words that I hope
Are as wise and even or as
Uneven as pearls. They can
Shine white and iridescent
Round or fragmented as any
Sentence I have ever written.
Telling my story or sentiment
I hope as well as the perfect
Pearls the Pacific yields or the
Little bitty ones my mother
Once had before she got a
Beautiful blue gray strand.
That was a show off necklace
But me, I so admired those
Ones that looked like hen's
Teeth, laying simply and
Easily against her sweater
Look closer
It's a uniformly pale blue
Look closer why don't you
There to the left a pillowy
Mass of greyish cloud meets
The azure, disrupts its single
Hues, changes its singularity
To a subtler picture, one of
Diversity of color and form.
Look closer, why don't we?
None sense
Is this a good guess?
The idea that crosses
My mind, just briefly,
Flittingly with no hold
Or perch to make it fly.
The one that's tangible.
Can't quite make it home.
Rough or ready but not
Both, significantly less
Dignified than the other
The hungrier tooth, older,
Adapting to this novelty
You did not expect. To
Ask for an explanation
Where none is found is
Trying. It leaves your
Mind guessing as mine
Did or does when facing
This kind of fork in a
Road so flat it flatters.
Hearts break
In the nighttime, my love, you
Are beaten and defeated. It's
Your struggle to understand
The nightmare of neglect, the
Careless care we subject you
To. Dreams should be full of
Love, hope. I have failed you.
Time worn
Restless beauty is for the
Young. We are no longer
Restless nor are we young.
We are not strong of body but
Full of the history of our days.
Our composure is wherein
Lies our beauty and the
Strength we nurture as our
Own. Ours isn't the strength
Of youth. We need not flex
A muscle to brace our claim
At the beauty that we have
Earned. Ours is a resolute
And quiet beauty, a stillness.
We are not strong of body; we
Are full of the history of our
Days. Therein rests our beauty.
Not in our youth but in our age.
Is it?
Is it that time again?
Have 365 days passed?
Will this be that night,
That marks the past?
A toast is always proposed
At this time of year, so here's
To hope and kindness, to our
Finding our best and being
Our best. Anticipate. Hope.
Balls drop in anticipation
I'll take a celebratory lap
With all you young folks
Hope is a kind of celebration
Kindness is a kind of hope
It is that time, again
365 days have passed
This is the night when
We mark the passage
Tonight we celebrate
It is that time to watch
The world stop to cheer
365 days have passed from
One year, onto the next
