Moon verse

Describe your life in an alternate universe.

I told you about the man who's
Been living on the moon. He has
A source of water so he like we
Stays hydrated. But you didn't ask
About him or his issues with food
On account of there's no cheese
There. You wanted to hear about
My life in an alternate universe not
His. On the moon. My alternates
Are deep in the core of this green
Earth. [Still no cheese.] Truth to tell
Not very green deep in the center
Of the earth, in its beautiful heart.
Life up on top was lusher, greener
More verdant but that's just being
Redundant. Alternative universes
Swirl among the stars. I am over
The moon. Somewhere behind
Our sun and up over the rainbow
We can play dodging black holes
And golf ball sized meteors no
Longer buried deep inside earth.
This is some alternative to life as
I have known it; as we know it.

30, eh?

List 30 things that make you happy.

One is fun, but two is a
Duo. Three is possibly a
Bit kinky. Four can play
At tennis. Or whatever.
Five adds a line to go
From rectangle or a step
Up from square. Six, a
Sextet. Next a heptagon;
Then an octagon, going
Back to the Greek. We
Count nine as a nonagon
And ten as a decagon. It's
Like a decade with sides.
Will we get to 30 just by
Quoting geometry? I think
Not. We've only reached
Ten and I am as exhausted
As if playing doubles in a
Match which in tennis is a
Foursome. Four square or
Four score with lots more
To go. Ten by 3 will get us
To 30 but we move slowly.
Are we at happy yet friend?

Tradition

What traditions have you not kept that your parents had?

Routines habits and rituals the
Things your family always did
To commemorate, celebrate, or
Honor special times or holidays
Traditions to mark your events.
Do you keep them and hold them
Sacred and dear year after year
Like the star atop the Christmas
Tree or the menorah on a mantle?
Or just a pork roast and potatoes
To show gratitude that it's not a
Turkey on your table. Your mom's
Best recipe or favorite sauce boat.
Things your family always did to
Make an event sparkle in its own
Unique light. Do you keep them?
Do you hold them dear each year
Pass them on like the light from
The Olympic Torch, in a tradition
That will define you as a part of.
The routines, habits, rituals that
Celebrate, and commemorate,
Your traditions and who you are.
I hope they are your centerpiece

Nickname. Knick knack

What’s the story behind your nickname?

In the nick of time; nicked by a
Passing bicycle, my sideview
Mirror sits askew; "nick-nack-
Paddle wack, throw your dog
A bone." In the nick of time, I
Caught it, but unlike your dog,
I do not fetch. Or sit or stay. I
Am named for a queen of the
Bible. No nickname nor knick
Knacks. Call me by my whole
Name, in all its fullness and its
Many syllables. That's who I am.

As in reining

Dogs or cats?

Dogs. Cats. Funny animals.
Smart puppies. Silly cats. All
Wise. Sage cats, secure in
Who they are. Playful dogs,
Worrying a stick or fetching
A ball. My dog never did that!
Fetch or even "go, get it, boy"
Was beyond his remit. Tug at
His leash hard enough to drag
My 10 year self along the street.
Dogs. Cats. Companions and
Friends. Anthropomorphisized
To their harm and maybe ours.
Dogs, cats, pals and playmates.

Clang

What is your favorite genre of music?

Rhythm banging melodies rising
Riding the waves of sound where
Beats meet tempo and merit our
Attention. "And a one and a two."
Songs tell us love stories or speak
To heartbreak, hope, or character.
A scherzo, a pastiche, a sonata,
A symphony let us dream our own
Words. Drums and xylophones in
The big parade; trumpets, flutes or
Tamborines, pianos, and violins too
Say what we have known all along

History will tell

Who is your favorite historical figure?

Too many people to admire or
Fear or laud if history is a guide.
Amelia Earhart took to the air,
Oh my. Flying, it's so tempting.
And a pilot is such an enviable
Person. Then, too, she was an
Accomplished woman. Freud,
He wrote a blueprint for living
And set a practice by which to
Define the intricacies of all our
Minds. Was he obsessed with
Pardon the expression s-e-x? If
Yes, his prose proved the most
Beautiful expression of how we
Grow and emerge as humans.
More contemporaneous people
Whose reputation I can covet
Include Mother Teresa? No, I
Have no wish at sainthood so
Even Joan of Arc is safe from
My desires. Joan Rivers? Yes,
Maybe. If so, because laughter
Was her gift to a world in tears.

If you could be someone else for a day, who would you be, and why?

I'm staying put. This is good enough
For me. It's enough to be just one of
Me, although we all know that it can
Entail a myriad of souls both old and
New just being me. Or you. We aren't
Alone when we are or where we are.
Each of us has many facets to explore.
It's enough being me and me and me.
